On Friday 1st March, students from John Paul College led the Stations of the Cross. This Lenten devotion directs us to Jesus’ journey towards his crucifixion. It is one way we can learn the true meaning of love, perseverance, obedience, humility and patience.
After praying at each station, we spent time contemplating Lenten reflections – the Way of the Cross by St Padre Pio.
St Padre Pio was an Italian priest who was known for his piety and charity, and the quality of his preaching. He famously advised people “Pray, hope and don’t worry.” He is the Patron Saint of adolescents.
The season of Lent offers each one of us the invitation to encounter Jesus and understand in a meaningful way his unconditional love.
“If you every happen to suffer for your afflictions, whatever they are, be certain that, if you love God with all your heart, everything will be converted to good. The knowledge that Jesus never leaves you even for an instant should bring you great consolation. God himself tells us that he is with those who are afflicted and in distress …. Be comforted, then, by the thought that after such darkness, the beautiful noon day sun will shine.”
