Congratulations to Imogen Blundell, Doug Monk and Harley Brennan – NZ Champion in Adventure Racing in the Mix Teams category!
The Go for 12 Adventure Race was raced on 14th April over near Tutira Lake region in the Hawkes Bay. This is a 12hr non stop race for the top Adventure racers in the country. The 12hr race is the NZ Secondary Schools Adventure Racing Champs.
It is a very tough event and top teams have to be fit, strong and mentally tough to do the hard yards late in the race. You also need to be pretty savvy to work through a strong strategy and have excellent outdoor skills.
The team of Doug Monk, Harley Brennan and Imogen Blundell did really well. They battled a tough start with mechanical issues on the bike leg costing valuable time and made some smart decisions to manage time. They finished as the top Mixed team (at least one Girl in the team) and are now the NZ Champions (Mixed Team). They were one of only four teams to do the final trek loop, a challenging navigation and river travel tleg hrough tough country. Two boys teams and the top girls team being the only other teams to manage complete this leg.
Ka mau te wehi!!!
