Our International students come from a range of different cultural backgrounds and have all chosen to study at John Paul College for different reasons. Find out how their experiences have been below…
ESPERANZA JOFRE BIRKE – CHILE
The school is very different to schools in Chile but the people are very friendly and I like the classes I am able to take. My host family is very nice and I feel like one of the family.
MIKU FUKUSHIMA – JAPAN
One of my favorite subjects at was Maori, because I could have a conversation in Maori and understand New Zealand culture more. In the school holiday, I had a brilliant tour and went to South Island. I met a lot of people, it was the highlight for me.
ZIHAO ZHANG – CHINA
The Music Department is a lot of fun. The learning is very different than in China but with the help of the teachers I was proud to come first in Year 12 Physics and Maths. JPC has given me the skills to study later in university and I am still deciding where that will be.
MARGUS CHIU – TAIWAN and SCOTT YI – KOREA
Margus and Scott were both JPC International Prizewinners and are now both studying Health Science at Otago University. In addition, Margus was offered a prestigious $15,000 Canterbury University Scholarship.
JPC students are very friendly and there are lots of activities to be involved in, such as football, basketball and table tennis. All of the teachers are very encouraging and want to help students achieve their goals.
EVELYN CASA DEL REAL – MEXICO
I have made many new friends at JPC and I love the interactive way that you learn in the classroom. Just by living the language, at home too, I have learnt to speak English well.
SAYA AKAZAWA – THAILAND
Before starting classes at JPC I attended the language school nearby and that helped me a lot to improve my English and made me feel ready. Really enjoy JPC!
NATSUMI BABA – JAPAN
My best classes are Cooking and Adventure Based Learning – especially when we go mountain biking!
Tham Chartprom – Thailand
When I was in high school I decided to study in another country because I wanted a different experience and so I can improve my English. I chose NZ because it is safe and Rotorua is very beautiful place to stay with lots of nature. I’m very happy I chose JPC and Rotorua.
Xue Gong – China
My best subjects at JPC are Economics & Maths and I also like Business studies. The teachers are nice and helpful. I’ve made good friends here and enjoy the school activities, like JPC Day and International Food Festival.
Maria – Chile
I like the type of education, and the students and teachers are so friendly. Rotorua is so beautiful and is similar to my hometown. I have experienced many fun activities here in Rotorua.
Audrey Prasanta – Indonesia
I really enjoy studying at John Paul College. The teachers are so helpful and I enjoy my different classes. I think JPC will help me get into University in New Zealand where I’d like to study Science.
