The framework of Pastoral care at John Paul College ensures that the College provides a safe emotional and effective environment for all students.
The first point of contact for all students is the classroom teacher or the student’s form teacher. Form teachers work closely with the Deans at each year level, the Guidance Counsellors, Campus Minister, School Nurse and Deputy Principals.

Counselling Guidance & Support
All John Paul College students have the opportunity to access confidential, professional counselling. These services are available through Te Korowai Maioha, our dedicated student Wellness Centre, which also hosts an on-site school nurse. All of our counsellors are registered professionals.
Student Wellbeing Team

Counselling is available to any JPC student who would like support with navigating through some of life’s challenges. Working collaboratively with the student/s, we unpack the problem and draw on strengths, qualities and values to foster personal growth and make positive steps toward the young person’s goals and aspirations. Everyone faces difficulties from time to time, and reaching out for support is often the first step toward finding a way forward. The counselling service is grounded in a respectful, caring, and supportive relationship. Students are welcome to attend counselling on their own, with a friend, or with family/whānau.
Everything that is shared with us is confidential. We won’t share student’s information without their permission—unless there is a serious concern for your safety or the safety of someone else. In such cases, we will try our best to talk with you first.
Our counsellors follow The Privacy Act 2020 and the Code of Ethics set by the New Zealand Association of Counsellors and the New Zealand Psychological Society.
